Joel is passionate about helping individuals overcome challenges and regain their joy for life. While attending Utah Valley University he decided he wanted to make this passion a focus of his life, earning a Bachelor of Psychology and then pursuing a Master of Social Work from Brigham Young University. Joel has worked in multiple settings in the mental health field, including the state hospital, residential care for teens and young adults and private practice. All these experiences have increased his ability to help others.
Some of the most common issues Joel works with include anxiety/depression, pornography addiction and adolescent and young adult life transitions. After being diagnosed with a chronic illness in early 2020 Joel is passionate about helping individuals with chronic illness manage the emotional stress that can accompany such a diagnosis.
Joel believes in the power of the therapeutic relationship in the therapeutic process. In addition to this he utilizes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Person Centered Therapy (PCT), Solution Focused (SFT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Cognitive Behavioral (CBT). Joel believes in the expertise of the client in addressing their challenges and strives to act as a helpful guide in helping others.
