    Daniel Barnes, CSW, SUDC

    Specializing in Substance Use & Addictions, OCD & Trauma

    Daniel is a Certified Social Worker (CSW) and a Licensed Substance Use Disorder Counselor (SUDC). His journey in the mental health field began with his own recovery from substance use disorders, OCD, and trauma in 2008. His lived experience of wounds and victory of recovery has gifted him with compassionate and visceral empathy that has empowered him to effectively counsel individuals, parents, and families since 2012. Daniel remains dedicated to the healing of shame, stigma, stereotypes, and wounds that exist both individually and systemically in our society. 

    Daniel is an honors graduate from Louisiana State University, where he received his Masters in Social Work. He graduated cum laude with his Bachelors in Behavioral Science: Psychology from Utah Valley University. He additionally received his Substance Use Disorder Counseling certification from Utah Valley University. Daniel has counseled myriad people throughout his career. He has worked with people in individual 1:1 therapy practices, adults in rehab/recovery centers, adolescents in state adjudicated programs, and adolescents and families in a premier therapeutic boarding school. 

    A highlight of Daniel’s career thus far was when he served as a Family Aftercare Specialist within the therapeutic boarding school. In this role, Daniel coached internationally diverse families in implementing effective transition plans post-treatment. Regardless of the setting, one of the greatest joys of Daniel’s professional life is witnessing the healing of individuals and families. As a therapist, Daniel believes in a collaborative and relational approach. He has experienced how secure, meaningful, and impactful therapeutic alliances with his clients strengthen the therapeutic process. 

    In therapy, Daniel will utilize an integrative psychology model, meaning that he will tailor specific principles from various models to meet the needs for each individual; such as, Person Centered Therapy, Inference-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS, “parts work” & “inner child work”), Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), DBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, Experiential, Recovery Oriented Systems of Care, and Family Systems Theory.
