Frequently Asked Questions About Individual Counseling

How much does counseling cost? Does insurance cover it?

Our counseling sessions cost $175 for the first intake appointment, and then $150 for appointments after that without insurance.

We accept some insurance plans, including Select Health, United Healthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Public Employee Health Plan (PEHP), Educators Mutual (EMI), and UMR Wausau with some exceptions based on clinician. We also accept Optum, BHO, and Blunovus EAPs.

How do I know if individual counseling is right for me?

Individual counseling can benefit everyone, whether what you’re struggling with is big or small. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply want support navigating life, individual therapy can help. It’s for anyone seeking growth, healing, or clarity.

What should I expect in individual counseling?

Starting counseling can feel like a big step, especially if it’s your first time. Our therapists aim to make the experience as comfortable and meaningful as possible.

In your first few sessions, your therapist will get to know you—your background, concerns, and what brings you to therapy. You’ll have the opportunity to share at your own pace in a safe, nonjudgmental space. Together, you and your counselor will explore your goals for therapy and create a plan that’s tailored to your unique needs.

Sessions typically last 50 minutes and are focused on helping you better understand yourself, work through challenges, and build practical tools to support your mental and emotional well-being. Some sessions might involve talking through current struggles, while others might include learning coping strategies, processing past experiences, or exploring patterns in your thoughts and behaviors.

Most importantly, individual counseling is a collaborative process. Your therapist is there to support you, offer guidance, and walk alongside you as you work toward growth and healing.
